Storälven consists of eight Copenhagen-based jazz musicians from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Czech Republic. Together they present new music, which is based on folk melodies from each other’s home countries. The band’s debut album contains nine new compositions, each of which in its own way tells a story about how small melodies are transformed into large works.
Copenhagen has a long history as a meeting place for international art and culture. It has led to many unique projects and collaborations, and one of them is the band Storälven. With a crew consisting of several internationally recognized musicians, the band is a refreshing breath of fresh air on the European jazz scene.
Storälven’s music is based on singable and easily recognizable folk melodies and vivid narratives where past and present dance with and against each other.
