Live recording at the legendary jazz club in Christiania is coming soon

23 / 05 / 2019

Soukup/Prochazka/Brun/Hæsum Quartet is recording their two live concerts at the legendary Christiania jazz club Børneteatre in Copenhagen on July 3 and 4, 2019.

Czech-Danish project

Saxophonist and composer Lubos Soukup, bassist Emil Brun Madsen, and drummer Morten Hæsum — three Copenhagen-based musicians who regularly perform at the jazz club — team up with the extraordinary Czech pianist Vojtech Prochazka with a desire to capture their original improvised music and the unique atmosphere of the famous jazz venue in Denmark. Vojtech Prochazka is well-known in Czechia for his unique piano playing style which is inspired by Thelonious Monk and Cecil Taylor and his passion for Indian music. Among other things, he happened to live in Norway for a few years.

The band played together only a few times in Prague, so they are excited to meet in Copenhagen again. The audience can look forward to hearing both original music — composed by Lubos Soukup and Vojtech Prochazka — and jazz tunes by, for example, Ornette Coleman, aforementioned Thelonious Monk and more. As a surprise, there might be some guests featured the second night.

Freetown Christiania and its jazz club

Freetown Christiania is a colorful alternative hippy area in the heart of the Danish capital. The partially autonomous commune, which was declared in a squatted military base in 1971, is full of live music, art, homemade houses, and beautiful nature. It has been known for many years thanks to the permanent stalls that sold all types of cannabis. There are several music venues in Christiania. The Jazz Club Børneteater is definitely one of the most famous ones in the free town.
